Tottenham striker Will Lankshear hailed despite ‘naive’ moment v Galatasaray

Youngster continues to impress in pre-season after scoring against Turkish giants

Lankshear has been a shining light for Tottenham during their pre-season tour and he continued his fine form with a goal against Turkish giants Galatasaray.

The 20-year-old striker, who has yet to make his senior debut for the club but has featured on the bench for the first team on a number of occasions, netted Tottenham’s second goal in their 2-1 victory over the Turkish giants in Istanbul on Saturday.

Lankshear, who joined Tottenham from Sheffield United in 2019, has been in impressive form for the club’s Under-23s side in recent seasons and he has carried that form into pre-season with the first team.

The youngster has scored three goals in four games for Tottenham this summer and he has caught the eye of manager Antonio Conte with his performances.

Conte has praised Lankshear’s attitude and application in training and he has said that the striker has a bright future at the club.

However, Lankshear did have one moment to forget against Galatasaray when he was sent off for a second bookable offence late in the game.

The striker was shown a yellow card for a late challenge in the first half and he was then sent off for a second bookable offence after he was adjudged to have dived in the penalty area.

Conte admitted that Lankshear’s sending off was a “naive” moment but he also said that the striker is still learning and that he will learn from his mistake.

Despite his sending off, Lankshear has been one of the standout performers for Tottenham in pre-season and he will be hoping to continue his good form when the new season gets underway.
