Flash Flood or Torrential Rain in South Carolina Washes Away Roads
What happened?
Torrential rain, as reported by The Washington Post, starting on Sunday, October 1, 2023, near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina caused flash flooding that damaged homes and washed away roads.
The rain, which fell at a rate of more than 1 inch per hour, caused the Waccamaw River to overflow its banks, flooding nearby areas. The flooding washed away several roads, including a section of Highway 544, and damaged dozens of homes.
What is being done?
Emergency crews are working to repair the roads and help those who have been affected by the flooding. The American Red Cross has set up shelters for those who have been displaced from their homes.
