Canucks blue liner Derek Forbort just can’t catch a break at the moment
Vancouver Canucks defenceman Derek Forbort has had a rough go of it lately.
The 29-year-old has been injured twice this season, and he’s now dealing with a lower-body injury that is expected to keep him out of the lineup for at least two weeks.
Forbort was first injured in October when he suffered a broken hand in a game against the Edmonton Oilers.
He returned to the lineup in November, but he was injured again in a game against the Vegas Golden Knights on December 10.
The latest injury is a particular blow to Forbort, who has been one of the Canucks’ most reliable defencemen this season.
In 27 games, he has two goals and seven assists, and he’s averaging over 20 minutes of ice time per game.
Forbort’s absence will be a big loss for the Canucks, who are currently in the midst of a playoff race.
The Canucks are currently third in the Pacific Division, but they’re just two points ahead of the fourth-place Los Angeles Kings.
With Forbort out of the lineup, the Canucks will need other players to step up and fill the void.
One player who could benefit from Forbort’s absence is Jack Rathbone.
The 23-year-old defenceman has been playing well in the AHL this season, and he could get a chance to play in the NHL with Forbort out.
The Canucks will also need to rely more on their other veteran defencemen, such as Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Tyler Myers.
Both players have been solid this season, and they will need to continue to play well in Forbort’s absence.
The Canucks will also need to get more production from their forwards.
The team has been struggling to score goals lately, and they will need to find a way to put the puck in the net more consistently.
If the Canucks can get more production from their forwards and their other defencemen, they should be able to weather the storm without Forbort.
