MORAGA, Calif. – The Saint Mary's women's basketball team opened their 2022-23 season with a 73-49 loss to Cal on Monday night at University Credit Union Pavilion.

The Gaels (0-1) were led by Taycee Wedin, who scored 11 points. Alexsandra Hernandez and Ali Bamberger each added 8 points.

The Golden Bears (1-0) were led by Jayda Curry, who scored 19 points.

SMC struggled to keep up with Cal's fast-paced offense

Saint Mary's struggled to keep up with Cal's fast-paced offense, as the Bears shot 47.4% from the field and 38.5% from three-point range.

The Gaels shot just 33.3% from the field and 20.0% from three-point range.
