Sacramento Kings Acquire Kevin Fiala from the Minnesota Wild
Wild Receive Marco Rossi, First-Round Pick, and Second-Round Pick
Deal Bolsters Kings' Playoff Hopes, Adds Scoring Depth
The Sacramento Kings have acquired forward Kevin Fiala from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Marco Rossi, a first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, and a second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. The trade was announced by Kings general manager Rob Blake and Wild general manager Bill Guerin on Tuesday.
Fiala, 26, is a Swiss winger who has spent the past five seasons with the Wild. He is a skilled offensive player who has scored at least 20 goals in each of the past four seasons. He is also a good skater and passer, and he can play both wings.
Rossi, 21, is a Canadian center who was the ninth overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. He is a highly skilled offensive player who had a successful junior career with the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He made his NHL debut with the Wild this season and has recorded 13 points (seven goals, six assists) in 63 games.
The Kings are hoping that Fiala can help them reach the playoffs for the first time since 2016. They have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NHL in recent years, but they have made some significant changes to their roster this offseason. They added Fiala, signed defenseman Alex Edler, and traded for forward Andreas Athanasiou. They also have a number of young players who are ready to take on bigger roles.
The Wild are getting a good return for Fiala. Rossi is a highly skilled player with a lot of upside, and the first-round pick could be used to select a top prospect in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. The Wild are in a rebuilding mode, and they are looking to add young players who can help them compete in the future.
