No. 24 Indiana women's basketball suffered an upset loss to Harvard in their season opener on Monday night at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, falling 79-73 to the Crimson. Despite a strong performance from Grace Berger, who scored a team-high 26 points, the Hoosiers committed 27 turnovers, which proved to be their downfall.
Berger was joined in double figures by Sydney Parrish, who scored 14 points, and Chloe Moore-McNeil, who added 10. But it was Harvard's Harmoni Turner who stole the show, scoring a game-high 31 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field.
The Hoosiers built a 15-point lead in the second quarter, but Harvard chipped away at it and eventually took the lead in the fourth quarter. The Crimson made their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. IU’s 27 turnovers led to 23 points for Harvard.
This is the first time that Indiana has lost to Harvard in women's basketball. The Hoosiers are now 1-1 all-time against the Crimson.
Up next, IU will host Saint Francis (PA) on Thursday night at Assembly Hall. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on BTN+.
