Green Receives High Marks Against UAPB; Real Test Coming

Green posts solid numbers versus UAPB

After a subpar outing against Arkansas in the season opener, Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman had his best performance last Saturday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff despite the starting job still belonging to Haynes King. The sophomore completed 61.3% of his passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns, adding another on the ground as the Aggies ran away with a 31-0 lead at halftime before coasting to a 38-10 victory.

Weigman provided a few highlight plays, including a 39-yard gain on a designed quarterback run where he made several UAPB players miss tackles en route to a first down early in the second half.

Weigman also made an impressive off-platform throw on the run to hit freshman Evan Stewart down the sideline for 19 yards in the second half.

Preseason Heisman Trophy candidate struggled

Perhaps the most encouraging sign for the Aggies was the performance of their defense. They held UAPB to just 25 net rushing yards as the Golden Lions managed only 175 total yards. Led by Walter Nolen, Donovan Green made several tackles all over the field including a big hit on UAPB’s running back.

With LSU looming next week, the Aggies’ defense will have their hands full.

As for the offense, much like Weigman, Stewart was one of the bright spots after a lackluster performance versus Arkansas. He caught four passes for 77 yards, showcasing his ability to stretch the field and make plays in the passing game.

A&M’s running game also found a groove, totaling 189 yards with Devon Achane leading the way with 66 yards and a score. Le’Veon Moss and Amari Daniels also added touchdowns on the ground.
