Galatasaray 3-2 Tottenham: Victor Osimhen inflicts first Europa League defeat on 10-man Spurs
Victor Osimhen scored twice to inspire Galatasaray to a 3-2 victory over Tottenham in the Europa League on Thursday, October 19.
The Nigerian striker gave the Turkish giants a 2-0 lead in the first half before Harry Kane pulled one back for Spurs just before the break.
Osimhen made it 3-1 in the second half, but a stunning Dele Alli strike reduced the deficit to set up a tense finish.
Spurs started brightly and had the first chance of the game when Lucas Moura forced a good save from Fernando Muslera in the Galatasaray goal.
However, it was the Turkish giants who took the lead against the run of play when Osimhen headed home from a corner in the 13th minute.
Osimhen doubled his tally just 10 minutes later when he was found unmarked at the back post to tap home a cross from Ryan Babel.
Spurs were given a lifeline in the 37th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Son Heung-min was brought down by Muslera.
Kane stepped up and coolly slotted home to make it 2-1.
The visitors were dealt a blow just before half-time when Serge Aurier was sent off for a second bookable offense.
Osimhen made Spurs pay for their numerical disadvantage when he completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute.
Alli gave Spurs hope with a stunning strike from outside the box in the 73rd minute.
However, Galatasaray held on to claim a famous victory.
The result leaves Spurs bottom of Group J with just one point from their first three games.
Galatasaray, meanwhile, are top of the group with seven points.
