Nine people face banning orders after unruly crowd at Optus Stadium

Nine people will face potential bans from Optus Stadium after an unruly crowd at Saturday night's Big Bash League (BBL) final, which saw beer thrown at players from both teams.

‘It’s unfair for the players to be abused’

Police said they will be seeking banning orders for the nine people, who were among a group of about 20 who were evicted from the stadium during the match between the Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat.

The ugly scenes marred what was otherwise a thrilling contest, with the Heat winning by six wickets with just one ball to spare.

Scorchers coach Adam Voges said it was "unfair" for the players to be abused on the field.

"It's not what we want to see in our game," he said.

"We want to see people enjoying themselves, but we don't want to see people throwing beer at players.

"It's not fair for the players to be abused like that."

‘This is not the behaviour we want to see’

WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said the behaviour of the unruly fans was "unacceptable".

"This is not the behaviour we want to see at sporting events," he said.

"We will be taking action against those responsible, and we will be seeking banning orders for those who were involved in the violence."

The nine people who will face potential bans are expected to appear in court in the coming weeks.

Optus Stadium chief executive Mike McKenna said the stadium would be working with police to identify those responsible for the unruly behaviour.

"We will be taking a zero-tolerance approach to this type of behaviour," he said.

"We want to make sure that Optus Stadium is a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone."

"Anyone who wants to behave in an unruly manner will now think twice."
