Cal’s Lulu Twidale Dops 24 Points On Opening Night
Golden Bear women’s basketball team wins 104-66 in exhibition over Chico
BERKELEY - Cal’s women’s basketball team tipped off its 2022-23 season at home on Sunday with a 104-66 exhibition win over NAIA program Chico State at Haas Pavilion.
Led by a game-high 24 points from junior guard Leilani “Lulu” Twidale, the Golden Bears shot 54 percent (43-for-80) from the field in the contest and held the Wildcats to just 32 percent (21-for-65) shooting. Cal also won the rebounding battle by a 48-35 margin.
Balanced Attack
Five other Golden Bears scored in double figures in the win, including senior forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt (15 points), freshman forward Jayda Curry (15 points), junior guard Cailyn Crocker (13 points), senior guard Kemery Martín (12 points) and sophomore guard Alina Broughton (11 points).
Chico State was led by senior guard Megan Anderson, who scored a team-high 19 points.
The Golden Bears took control of the game early, jumping out to a 10-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game. They would never trail again.
Cal led by 13 points, 28-15, after the first quarter and extended its lead to 20 points, 55-35, at the half.
The Golden Bears continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring the Wildcats 49-31 in the final two quarters.
Cal will open its regular season on the road next Tuesday, Nov. 8, when it takes on UC Riverside at the SRC Arena.
