Andrei Iosivas News: Eagles’ Shutout Sends Romanian to 0-6
Romanian-born 22-year-old Finishes With 33 Penalty Yards in Loss
Iosivas Makes NFL Debut as Kicker for Cincinnati Bengals
Former FCS All-American kicker Andrei Iosivas endured a difficult NFL debut on Sunday, as the Cincinnati Bengals were shut out 23-0 by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
Iosivas, a native of Bucharest, Romania, missed both of his field goal attempts, from 43 and 53 yards, and had one extra point blocked.
The 22-year-old was signed by the Bengals on Tuesday following an injury to starting kicker Evan McPherson and was thrust into action for his first NFL game just 48 hours later.
Despite the disappointing debut, Iosivas showed off his powerful leg on kickoffs, booming seven touchbacks and averaging 65.4 yards per kick.
Iosivas, who played college football at the University of Connecticut, was a standout in the FCS, earning All-American honors in 2021 after making 23 of 28 field goals and all 49 of his extra point attempts.
He was expected to compete with McPherson for the starting job in Cincinnati, but McPherson’s injury has given him an opportunity to earn the role outright.
Unfortunately for Iosivas, the Bengals’ offense struggled mightily against the Eagles, gaining just 174 total yards and failing to score a point.
Iosivas will look to bounce back in Week 2 when the Bengals host the Dallas Cowboys.
